Council says no to stormwater costs at Nuriootpa

Providing sufficient stormwater drainage in a parcel of Nuriootpa land will be the responsibility of land owners and developers after The Barossa Council debated the matter at their meeting last month.

According to council documents, MacIntosh Nominees and Strategic Urban Projects put a proposal to Council suggesting Council at its cost, construct the stormwater infrastructure up front and implement a levy to recoup the costs from future developers.

Mr Michael Lange, director of works and engineering, said estimated cost for the stormwater augmentation is $1,120,000 and Council does not have available discretionary funding.

“Funding of this proposal will create a significant financial burden and risk to Council,” said Mr Lange’s report.
